Work life balance tips | Balancing work & personal life

Whether you’re an employer or an employee, it can be hard to separate your work and home life. Read on for our tips on how to create the perfect balance between the two.

On average, we spend 40 hours a week working. That’s a huge chunk of our time, which can have an impact on your home life if you’re not too careful. That’s why having a healthy balance between the two is key.

If you’re a sole trader working from home, it can be hard to draw the line between work and home life for different reasons. When your home is your office, for example, how do you switch off?

Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is incredibly important to avoid burnout and stress. Easier said than done, though. We get it. We’ve compiled a list of our top tips to help you manage all your responsibilities.

Prioritise

The key to maintaining a perfect work-life balance – prioritise your time carefully. Set achievable, realistic goals each work day and don’t overstretch yourself to hit unrealistic deadlines.

Plan personal time

A good way to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to plan your personal time. Whether it’s just a day of annual leave spent in your pyjamas watching TV, meeting a friend for coffee, or Friday date night, make sure you always have some time to yourself to look forward to.

Have set work hours

And stick to them! It’s important to try and avoid going overboard on the overtime. Stick to your set working hours and, even if you’re self-employed, be very clear about when you can and can’t work.

Exercise

It can seem like a chore, but once you get going, nothing will clear your mind and help you feel better than exercise. Try hitting the gym, taking a class, or even pounding the pavements between work and getting home to split up the day and help you unwind.

Take a break

Although it can be tempting to try and get all of your work out of the way, try to take breaks every now and then. You’ll get a much-deserved breather and be better focused on the rest of your work.

Don’t bring work home

Self-discipline is key for this one. Leaving your work at work is a sure-fire way to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Yes, that does include checking your emails in the middle of your favourite box set.

Looking for a way to bring home the bacon, but also keep a healthy balance between work and home life? With Star Trader, you can work whenever and wherever you want. Win win.
