Foldable phones are here – what to expect in 2019

2019 is set to be the year of the foldable phone. Will they just be a fleeting fad or are they here to stay?

Design trends for phones have drastically changed during the last decade. We’ve ditched the buttons, added front-facing cameras and are soon to launch 5G. Now devices that can bend in the middle are set to revolutionise the mobile phone market.

In this blog, we discover the brands and devices ringing the changes in foldable phones.

Samsung - Galaxy Fold

It’s official – Samsung, one of the market leaders in smartphones, has confirmed the launch of its bendable phone.

The Galaxy Fold will set you back around £1500 – but what do you get for your money? Confirmed features are set to include an OLED display, a range of colours including “Martian Green” and “Astro Blue” and, of course, the pièce de résistance – a foldable 7.3-inch screen.

Huawei Mate X

A device designed to be used as both a phone and a tablet. Huawei believe their Mate X model is the fastest foldable phone on the market.

Huawei Mate X also has dual sim functionality, perfect for people who travel a lot. Interested in getting the best out of a dual sim phone? Check out our top tips here.

Motorola Razr V4

If you’re feeling nostalgic, this one’s for you.

The iconic Motorola Razr is rumoured to return this year, with an exciting new foldable screen. From the outside, the Razr V4 looks pretty similar to the original. Once open, the original keypad is replaced with a full-length screen.

There’s one major player that seems to be missing from the foldable phone frenzy – Apple. Is a folding iPhone plausible? Only time will tell.
